No, we’re not merging or anything crazy like that. But we are happy to announce a partnership with Zexsports, the leading action sports event portal for more in-depth event coverage here on 5ones. Zexsports will be providing you, our loyal readers & friends, with full event coverage and photos right here on 5ones.

As you’ve probably noticed, we’re a humble little startup that’s already spread pretty thin. Between the awesome content we’re already providing and all the cool features and applications we’re developing, we aren’t left with much time to cover all the crazy events that go down in action sports. And we know you guys our itching for that info, so thanks to Zexsports, you’ll get that all right here.

As humble as we are, we’ll still admit we have the best content in the industry (we just don’t have enough of it). Rest assured, our content will stay at the quality you’ve come to expect, as we’ll still maintain full editorial control over everything posted on the site. We will continue to be real and tell you exactly how it is without influence from advertisers or industry bros– you know, like just about every other action sports publication. Our readers always have been and always will be priority above anyone else.

Ever wonder whose behind all this radness called 5ones? We just finished updating our team page so now you can learn a little bit more about who we are. I’m biased, but even so, it’s a well-known fact that we have some of the most talented and passionate folks in the industry. I’m especially stoked that they all work so hard so I can spend my days surfing, instead of working.

By the way, if you see Chris out riding the pow, tell him he needs to put up a picture already.

We just launched a new feature on the site called 5 with 5’s. The basic idea for 5 with 5’s is that we’re going to start doing a series of questions with athletes, brands, bands, industry peeps, and more. We’ll ask them 5 questions in an interview style format, let them answer however they see fit, and then post the interview up on the site for everyone to read. Our first interview was done with FirstStoke.com and you can check it out here.

If you’re an athlete, brand, musician, etc – and you’re interested in doing a 5 with 5’s feature then get in touch with us. Look for these on a weekly basis.

A couple of us here at the office are headed up to the Group Y event tonight at the Red Bull headquarters. We’d love to meet you so if you’re attending please make it a point to come say hi.

CJ Olivares, the GM of Fuel TV, will be discussing the growth and success of Fuel TV. We’re big fans of Fuel and look forward to hearing what he has to say. There will also be lots of networking Fueled (pun totally intended) by Red Bull/Vodkas and Barefoot Wines, both sponsors of this event.

Should be a great time and we’re looking forward to hanging with our fellow industry compadres. Group Y is a really cool collective of people in the action sports industry and I highly recommend you attend if possible.

Some of more savvy readers may have noticed that we rolled out a new category yesterday for press releases. Up until this point we’ve avoided posting press releases, although when something of significant importance has come through the wire we’d still write about it, just in our own words. We always wanted to be unique and not post the same content that everyone else was posting.

After several emails from our readers asking that we start posting press releases, we realized it’s something that many of you would like to read about here on the site. We decided that if we could roll them out in a way that doesn’t dilute the great content we have in other categories on the site, that it’s probably a good idea. So that’s why we created the new category for it. Don’t worry though, we still plan on covering the major news in our words and we’ll keep those in the categories most relevant.

For those brands and PR reps interested in sending us your press releases, you can do so through our submit news page and we’ll make sure to get those up on the site.

Firstly, let me apologize to anyone that has tried to subscribe to our content by email in the last couple of weeks. It seems that when we launched the redesign of the site there was a technical issue with the email subscribe feature. I wasn’t even aware there was a problem until one of our readers alerted me last week about it. I guess I need to do a better job of thoroughly testing all of the site features. Anyways, we’ve fixed the problem and everything should be working now so feel free to enter in your email address and we’ll send you all of our great content by email.

As I was making my way home from my first group Y event, held up at the chic Oakley HQ this past month, I was already setting my eyes toward the April gathering. The panel discussion was very insightful, and the overall energy of all in attendance was nothing but positive.

With that being said, we would like to invite you to join us for the April gathering, which is to be held at Hensley’s Pub & Grill in Carlsbad, Ca (our backyard!). 5ones is super excited to be given the privilege to help out with this event and we are looking forward to attending and meeting others in the industry.

For any of our friends unfamiliar with group Y, I would recommend checking them out. They can be defined best by their banner on top of their home page- group Y is a collective of youth marketing & communication professionals with a focus on action sports and entertainment industries. We’ve just added a new feature that allows you to subscribe to comments threads that you are active on. That means if you leave a comment on a post and you’d like to be notified of follow up comments, you can now get an email anytime someone adds to that conversation. You may have noticed the little check box at the bottom of the comment area. This is an optional feature that you can uncheck when you’re leaving a comment if you don’t want to follow the conversation. You will also have full control to log back in at anytime and change the settings.

This is another step in trying to bring more of a community atmosphere here to 5ones. It’s also a convenient feature for you guys so you don’t have to check back every hour to see if someone has responded to your comments… you can just wait ’til you get the email notification.

We’ve just added a new feature here on the site so you can submit news stories directly to us. That’s right, we’re asking you to help us cover the news YOU feel is most important. It doesn’t have to be news either; maybe you just want us to cover a story or topic that we’ve missed out on, perhaps you have a press release from your own company that you think we should pick up on, or maybe you know something we don’t and we should be breaking the story.

Well now you can feed that information right to us. It’s simple too, just fill out the simple form we setup and the information will come right to our editors.

We’ve just setup a Twitter account, aptly named ‘5ones‘, that you can follow us on. We’ll be ‘tweeting’ the most important items that we post here on the site. We’ll also be giving you updates on events and parties that we host or participate in. Twitter is a great medium that you can use to follow the latest from 5ones either through the web or via SMS on your mobile phone.

Not only can you follow us through Twitter, but we can also follow you back. If you add us to your list please shoot over a message and we’ll gladly follow you back. We plan to use this not only as an additional way to keep you (and us) up to date on what’s happening in action sports, but also as a way to connect with you, our readers, on a more personal basis.
