EXILE Skimboards “Stimulus” Best Skimboard Movie Ever

Friday, July 17th, 2009

stimulusI will start of by saying when it comes to the ocean 5ones has a biased to surfing, that is what we live and breath. However “Stimulus” the new skimboard movie by Exile Skimboards, presented by Extreme Outdoor Supply is insane. I haven’t seen many skimboard movies and I am not going to pretend that I have, but this movie is amazing. Anyone that enjoys riding waves (no matter what they use to ride them with) will enjoy this flick. The Skimboarding is unlike anything I have ever seen, the editing and music is rad too. It definitely makes a surfer want to hit the beach the next time the shore break is going off. Check out the trailer below.

You can get the movie here.

group Y To Host First Action Sports Conference At ESPN’s X Games 15

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

group Y and ESPN have collaborated to produce the Action Sports Conference, to be held at X Games 15 on July 30th. group Y, the premier action sports and youth marketing networking group, will use the X Games as a backdrop to bring together marketers from action sports and non-endemic brands for a day of education, networking and sharing of best practices. The Action Sports Conference will be presented by FUEL TV.

During the last two decades, activities such as skateboarding, BMX and surfing have continued to grow in both popularity and exposure. Recent statistics cite that participants in action sports represent well more than 15 million people, with spending extending into the double-digit billions. The X Games has showcased action sports on a global level since 1995, giving action sports athletes and brands a broader level of media exposure than ever before.

“What we’ve witnessed first hand with the X Games is how broad of an appeal action sports have, beyond the core participant,” said Chris Stiepock, vice president and general manager for the X Games. “The excitement surrounding action sports transcends the active participants and extends to a steadily growing group of fans. Savvy marketers are realizing that if you engage the influencers in this genre first, their efforts can have a strong impact.”

As the original action sports and youth marketing networking organization, group Y is ideally suited to be producing this conference. Founded in 2006 to foster relationships within the action sports community, group Y boasts the most authentic and connected membership base of any networking group in action sports. In the past, group Y has hosted many events throughout the Southern California region, featuring leaders from the top echelon of action sports and youth focused companies, including Quiksilver, Burton, Oakley, FUEL TV, Vans and MySpace.

For brands in action sports, increased media exposure has led to a greater need for strategic marketing initiatives ranging from grassroots programs to integrated social media executions. As part of the conference’s activities, there will be panel discussions and presentations on best practices for merchandising brands, increasing athlete visibility across different channels and maintaining relevance with future participants.

“As an industry, the action sports world tends to be unique in its communal nature. It’s not far from rare for competitors to not only socialize at events, but to also be friends as well,” commented Liz Randall, group Y’s CEO and co-founder. “What group Y events provide are ways to harness this community in a way to afford opportunities for members to connect in a low key environment and discuss issues and trends we’re seeing as a whole.”

The Action Sports Conference is the first group Y event to proactively invite representatives from outside of the endemic action sports community to participate. By inviting mainstream brands to partake in the discussions, group Y hopes to help non-endemic marketers better connect with the action sports community through appropriate partnership proposals and more authentic campaigns.

“The action sports participant tends to be pretty savvy and quick to judge when being targeted by the non-endemics. Unfortunately, the majority of the programs we’re seeing that target this demographic wind up alienating them instead,” commented Mark Sperling, co-founder and President of group Y. “It takes more than putting a snowboard in an ad to target someone who considers themselves a snowboarder. Through this conference, we’re hoping to give some brands a deeper look into one facet of action sports and connect them with some key influencers to help them develop more authentic programs for the future.”

As little nuances in execution can quickly turn a campaign from authentic to awful in the eyes of action sports participants, a limited number of VIP education packages will be made available. These packages will include a behind the scenes tour of the X Games as well as a guided, one-on-one experience where participants are able to ask questions, interact with brand representatives and receive insights surrounding the distinctions of targeting an influential demographic.

group Y’s Action Sports Conference will be held in the Stadium Club of The Home Depot Center, an exclusive location that will overlook many of the events taking place during day one of X Games. Maximum capacity for the event will be 200 attendees with a participatory price of $195 for a basic conference package, with enhanced packages also available.

X Games 15 will be held July 30 – August 2, 2009, and be covered live on ESPN’s family of networks, including ABC, as well as across ESPN’s digital media assets. The event will feature athletes from across the globe competing for medals and prize money in Skateboarding, Moto X, BMX and Rally Car Racing.

Additional support for the Action Sports Conference is being provided by FUEL TV, Propaganda Headquarters and BBPR.

More details and information on the Action Sports Conference can be found online at www.actionsportsconference.com.

DC LAUNCHES KEN BLOCK TEAMWORKS COLLECTION WITH THE BEST INFOMERCIAL EVER: GYMKHANA TWO

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

DC officially launches Ken Block’s first-ever TeamWorks Collection on June 1st with the best infomercial ever—introducing the Gymkhana TWO video. Riding on the success of the first Gymkhana Practice video that grabbed the attention of over 20 million viewers worldwide, the high-performance video and Block’s complete TeamWorks Collection will be live at www.dcshoes.com/gymkhanatwo.

Created to honor Block for all of his achievements, the collection features two pairs of shoes, a reversible windbreaker, T-shirt, sweatshirt and hat. Block’s design inspirations for his collection all stem from his Gymkhana TWO car, and each feature his rally sponsors’ colorways and graphics. When given the opportunity to work on a project that reflects his personality as an athlete, he looked at patterns, logos, colors and materials and created his own hand drawn DC logo “Block” print. The print was originally used on his race car, and then was transferred onto both of his shoe models, the Block Spartan High and Block Manteca 3.

Relying on Block’s expertise behind the wheel of a rally car as the cornerstone, the Gymkhana TWO video takes infomercials to the next level. Unlike other infomercials, this one sells the products with great action, cinematography, and a dramatic driving performance—and, no stereotypical cheesy infomercial pitchman. Produced specifically to market Block’s first-ever Rally TeamWorks Collection, the new video is filled with great driving stunts, surprises, explosions, and a guest appearance from DC team rider, Rob Dyrdek. Filmed at the Port of Los Angeles, expect non-stop motor sport eye-candy as Block hits the all-new course in a custom tuned, high performance, and brand-new Subaru Impreza WRX STI.

The new 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX STI was custom built by Crawford Performance to the unique specifications of Block. Created specifically for this new gymkhana video project, Crawford custom built this new car to the unique driving conditions of gymkhana. The car features high-power performance modifications, including BFGoodrich g-Force KDW tires, tons of custom and unique parts, lots of carbon fiber, and has a custom graphics package and body mods for a unique and striking look.

The gymkhana project started off with the first Gymkhana Practice video that was put on kenblockracing.com, dcshoes.com, YouTube, streetfire.net, Shred or Die and Vimeo with little promotion and became an instant viral success in all circles, capturing over 20 million viewers to date in six short months. Encouraged by this success Block and DC decided to up the ante by elevating the driving and production level in the second video, Gymkhana TWO.

Gymkhana – jim-kah-nuh — is an automotive sport that takes place on an open tarmac area such as a parking lot or old airfield, and requires drivers to push their limits of car control and unlock their true abilities while skillfully maneuvering their cars around a series of cones, slaloms, 180-degree turns, 360-degree turns, figure eight turns or other obstacles using extreme acceleration, braking, and drifting.

For more information on Gymkhana TWO, Block’s DC TeamWorks Collection, behind-the-scenes footage, photos, exclusive interviews, contests and more, visit www.dcshoes.com/gymkhanatwo.

KEN BLOCK AND DC TO PRODUCE NEW GYMKHANA VIDEO

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

Riding on the success of the first Gymkhana Practice video that grabbed the attention of over 20 million viewers worldwide, DC and Ken Block are producing another gymkhana video. Operating under the project name “Gymkhana TWO,” the video has a target launch date of June 1, 2009. Leading up to the launch of the video, DC will release several teaser videos and behind the scenes photos, exclusive interviews, appearance information, upcoming event details and contests in a new blog section on its website – http://auto.dcshoes.com/features/ken-block-blog/ .

Block, who is a co-founder of DC leading the brand since 1994, is also a member of the DC Rally Team, and is currently working hard to develop the project. Details are still on lock, but the latest gymkhana video will feature a new location, new car, all new footage, and be filled with lots of surprises.

The first pre-release video highlights some of the details of Block’s new car. The 2008 Subaru STi was custom built by Crawford Performance to the unique specifications of Block. Created specifically for this new gymkhana video project, Crawford has custom built this new car to the unique driving conditions of gymkhana. The car features high-power performance modifications, tons of custom and unique parts, lots of carbon fiber, and has a custom graphics package and body mods for a unique and striking look.

Block got involved in gymkhana a few years ago as a way to get more time behind the wheel of rally-related race cars. In his original Gymkhana Practice video released last November, he took traditional gymkhana to the next level, adding buildings, barriers, and, perhaps most insane, donuts around a moving Segway.

“The first gymkhana video was a lot of fun to make and surprised everyone with its viral success,” said Block. “Although it will be tough to one up a guy on a moving Segway, I am going to do my best – I have a couple of surprises lined up. If everything goes as planned, the unique location and obstacles should be pretty amazing.”

As noted, the first of several pre-release videos is now live in a special DC web section at http://auto.dcshoes.com/features/ken-block-blog/. It features sneak peek details of the new highly modified Subaru STi prepared especially for Block.

Stay tuned for more on this exciting project in the very near future.
