Maloof Money Cup: a $500,000 Skate Contest
On July 11th – 13th, one of the gnarliest skateboard contests, if not thee gnarliest one ever, will go down in Orange County. The Maloof Money Cup offers the largest sum of money ever thrown into a skate contest, $500,000 in cash prizes is up for grabs. And the entire street course will be constructed only to be destroyed when the contest is over. How gnarly is that? Seriously, it almost feels like a total waste of money to destroy the park after the contest, but I guess when you’re a Maloof brother money ain’t a thing.
You see, Joe Maloof is the mastermind behind putting on this contest; he and his brothers are also the owners of the Sacramento Kings, The Palms Hotel & Casino, Wells Fargo, and pretty much every popular beer company except Budweiser. I think its actually pretty rad that he’s doing this for the skateboard community.
The skatepark design will be solely street influenced by actual street skateboarders. Rob Dyrdek is in charge of designing the street course alongside help from others such as Andrew Reynolds. A vert ramp is also being constructed with the help of design by none other than Jake Brown himself.
You would think a contest of this magnitude would almost feel too corporate but when you really think of the individuals involved and the process being put into everything, we may very well have one of the most legit street skateboarding competitions ever in the history of skateboarding itself. Not to mention the outstanding list of entrants to the contest. I mean some of these guys you would never get to see skate in a competition like Brandon Beibel, Bryan Herman, Leo Romero, and Erik Ellington?
The Maloof Money Cup is one that’s most definitely worth the watch! It’s going to be off the hook if you ask me! Seriously, when you put half a million on the line, the magnitude of tricks that will go down will be astonishingly amazing and leave you awestruck.

That seriously looks like it’s going to be unbelievable. The Maloofs show once again why they have been so successful over the years. Having Rob Dyrdek do the street design was a brilliant move.
