FYI Kalyn: (from Wikipedia, just one of the many sources I could quote)
“Falling coconut deaths are often used as a comparison to shark attacks; the claim is often made that a person is more likely to be killed by a falling coconut than by a shark. However, there is no evidence of people being killed in this manner.” I have been chased out of the water by sharks a few times but never have I been threatened by a COCONUT. So stop trying to give COCONUTS a bad name!

im sorry for the familys loss. but fyi your more likely to be killed by a coconut falling on ur head than getting attacked by a shark, yet its always all over the news

I have seen many sharks in the water while snorkeling, but I never thought much of them. Sorry to hear this news!

Sad news but the reality of it is that this is a very rare occurance. Thousands of people die everyday doing things that we never think twice about yet when a shark attacks it’s the shot heard round the world. Getting attacked by a shark has never even crossed my mind here in san diego, but I guess now it’s something to think about.

It was a white. All the beaches aren’t closed, just within a couple mile radius. I paddled out to ‘D’ Street around noon and that’s not far from the incident. The life guards were just warning people but they still allowed you out.

I heard on the news all the way over here in New York that all the beaches are closed right now down there. And that is is estimated to be a Great White.
