It will be a life size statue of Layne Beachley with a promonade of Aussie surf stars you walk along, ( like the Hollywood walk of stars ). So you can walk along Midget Farrelly and Nat Young, across Michael Peterson, Terry Fitzgerald, Wayne "Rabbit" Bartholomew, Mark Richards, Tom Carroll, Damien Hardman, Mick Fanning.....the list is almost endless of undesevering 'sexist' males. The project is being reved up by the Manly Daily ( Gayly ), as it a typical politically correct, leftist peice of covert brainwashing media that has an anti surfer dogma. I think the journos are just former pimply nerds that couldn't score at high school and have it in for what they percieve to be the cooler surfers and froth with envy. Fair enough Layne is 7 time world champion ( female ) and does alot for womens causes but this is just divisive and antagonistic. It reminds me of the mentality in pre school where you play "girl power" and the poo disease gaves between the sexes at the age of under five. There is a decent statue of the Duke at Freshwater, ( the next beach up ) who is given the title as being the one to introduce surfing 'down under'. He is a legend but this wasnt the case. Its too bad the locals werent able to be involved in the final design process....obviously the proposel of this design would have been a 'veto!' in a heartbeat. I do agree that $120,000 could have been better spent helping clean the enviornment surrounding the beaches. However, do we really need that kind of money to help clean a beach? When was the last time you got your ass up before work or after a session in the water, got a trash bag and filled it with the trash left on the beach? Think if everyone did that once a week or bi-monthly, what our beaches would look like. Imagine the impression tourists would get seeing people (not in orange vests) cleaning the beach. They might think twice before leaving their trash in the sand.
