New Corporate Clients
Q) I would like to consider using your services. Where do we begin?
A) Many of our clients arrive at our door through referrals. The best place to start is to give us a call at 780.438.1174 and speak directly to one of our partners. We are friendly, and eager to help.
Q) Is my business the right size for you?
A) We specialize in small and medium sized businesses. We focus on providing quality service to every business and industry we are associated with.
Q) How long will the initial meeting take?
A) A reasonable estimate would be fifteen minutes to a half hour.
Q) How much does the initial meeting cost?
A) There is a free consultation for potential corporate clients. GST and other tax consultation may result in a fee, which will be discussed and agreed upon before the consultation.
Q) What information do you need from me?
A) We will need to make copies of at least the prior year’s corporate and personal tax information, GST information and details from your corporate minute book. Please contact us for a PDF copy of our personal checklist.
If you have current financial information, such as sales forecasts, bring it with you to help with planning. For first year-ends of corporations, or if you have questions about whether you need to incorporate, bring your personal tax return for last year and your notice of assessment.
Q) What are your fees?
A) The fees will vary based upon the time it will take to complete the work on your file. We strive to educate and empower clients with their record keeping. We are price sensitive and focus on providing services in the most cost-effective manner possible.
Q) How long does it take to prepare my year end?
A) We strive to complete engagements in a month, but there may be unforeseeable circumstances where the engagement could possibly take more time to be completed.
Q) Will You prepare my GST return?
A) Yes, if it is necessary for a clients’ GST return to be prepared, we would be more than happy to prepare it upon request.
Q) When are my tax payments due?
A) Your year-end package includes any due dates or important deadlines. Generally, corporate tax payable balances are due within three months after the year-end. There are specific occasions that require payment within two months , but this will be brought to your attention in your year-end package.
Q) How do I inform the predecessor accountant that I have switched to Hergott & Company?
A) A standard professional courtesy letter is sent to the accountant from our office.
Q) How do I pay my invoice?
A) We accept cash, cheque, debit, VISA, MasterCard, wire transfer, or email money transfer upon completion of our services.
Q) Who will I be meeting with?
A) You will be meeting with one of our two partners. Each of our accountants has a strong understanding of the accounting and tax matters of your business. We are also a small business and can relate to the needs and requirements of our clients.
Q) Do you require a retainer?
A) A retainer may be required in certain instances; this will be discussed before any billable work is completed.

Q) Do you accept new personal tax clients?
A) Yes, we are accepting personal tax clients, provided we are a good fit and can exceed their expectations. Regardless of the complexity of your return, we have two Chartered Professional Accountants with a total of over twenty years of personal tax experience.

A) The fees will vary based upon the time it will take to complete the work on your return. We strive to educate and empower clients with their record keeping. We focus on providing services in the most cost-effective manner possible.

Q) Who will I be meeting with?
A) You will be meeting with one of our two CPA’s. Each of our tax advisors has a strong understanding of the personal tax matters that are important to you.
Q) What information do you need from me?
A) To ensure we have all your carry forward balances, please bring in your prior year tax return as well as the Notice of Assessment received from the Canada Revenue Agency. If you had any dispositions of capital property (real estate, stocks, bonds, etc.) please bring in any documentation so that we can ensure the correct figures are used in preparing your return.

Q) I have received a notice of re-assessment from the Canada Revenue Agency. What should I do?
A) Please forward the document to our office immediately so that an appeal can be made (must be filed within 90 days of the date of the Notice of re-assessment).
